Water Deepa Mehta’s critically acclaimed, Academy Award-nominated Water is a powerful drama that centers the perspective of a child amidst intense social shifts. In a rapidly changing 1930s India, newly widowed Chuyia, age eight, is sent to an ashram to join a community of outcast widows. The film won awards at Oslo, San Francisco, Valladolid, Bangkok, and Vancouver film festivals, and opened the Toronto Film Festival. Water won Best Actress and Score at the Canadian Screen Awards, and was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards.
